Injury status

Posted on April 20, 2009 by pravata in News You Can Use

“I feel fine,” said Kazuo Matsui, . “I want to start (today).”
Cooper “He’ll be in there [Monday], and we’ll go with it from there, just monitor it from there.”

Jeff Keppinger, expects to be ready for the Dodgers series on Tuesday.  The Astros are facing three left-handers.  “I will be ready for the Dodgers,” he said. “Even if I’m not ready, I’ll be ready.”

Good thing, Cooper was starting to get feverish,
“Pudge Rodriguez has played some third base, which gives me an option of moving Blum around a little bit,” Cooper said. “As funny as it might sound, Darin Erstad has played a little bit of infield. …“Michael Bourn has played second base before and shortstop. Carlos Lee’s a third baseman.”

“There’s some options. … Jason Michaels told me he played third base one inning in this place, this ballpark.  So we got options.  Did I say they were (good) options?”

Pitching
Doug Brocail, recovering from a rotator cuff sprain, fully expects to come off the disabled list when he’s eligible next Sunday. He threw a 35-pitch, all-fastball bullpen session on Saturday with no complications, and he expects the same when he throws again Monday.

“It (shoulder) bounced back quicker than I was hoping, quicker than I expected,” he said. “I don’t think a rehab (stint) will be necessary.”
Brocail said. “Once the soreness goes away, you know that the swelling’s out and you start to want to get back on the mound in a real game.”

Brian Moehler, will throw a bullpen session Tuesday for the first time since he was hurt. If all goes well, Moehler will likely throw another bullpen session and then be cleared to go on a rehab start either late this week or early next. Cooper said. “He needs to get the pitch count back up again.”
