Who Goes Where and Why

Cooper explains his thinking on the lineup

Rodriguez  “We talked a little bit today,” Cooper said. “I had it kind of in mind to keep him down there, (7th) and it will help him. He’s a new guy in the league, a lot of pitchers, he hasn’t seen, it’s a chance to see the guys throw at least an inning before he has to go up [and hit].”

Pence  “For now, he’s probably the one guy that’s going to fluctuate the most in the lineup,” Cooper said. “He’ll go up, he’ll go down, and I don’t think it’ll bother him. I just think he can do that. I’ve always said that about Hunter, he can hit almost anywhere.”

Pence was receptive to the idea of hitting second when approached by his manager prior to Friday’s game.

“He said, ‘don’t change,'” Pence said. “… Wherever I am that day, I’m going to prepare to hit there and be the hitter that I am.”

Bourn “First or second, he needs to get back up there, at some point this year,” Cooper said. “But I like what I’ve seen from him to this point, so I’m going to keep him there. Hopefully, he will continue to make a lot of progress.”
