Cooper said. “In that situation a lot of times it is tough to put down a bunt. Guys do have the green light to be able to do something with the ball other than to bunt it right into an out. I thought it was a pretty good play. It just didn’t get quite executed.”
To be clear, Cooper asked Bourn “to sacrifice, to bunt, but when they’re on top of you like that they have the freedom to do that. You just have to make sure you get it done that way.”
In those cases, Cooper says he’s told his pitchers and that they have the option to “slug bunt.” Link
Smiling Jeff
Jeff Bagwell warmly greeted Jeff Kent in the Astros dugout on Tuesday (before the game) and said, “Why are you smiling?”
“Because I don’t have to do this anymore,” Kent shot back.
“I feel relaxed,” he said. … — what I’m smiling for? My answer was, because I’m not having to play today. I appreciate that. I don’t have to get up with my game attitude. I don’t have to. It’s relieving.”
“Walking through the gates, going up to the suite … the emotions the first time I walked through the stands, seeing people,” he said. “A couple people recognized me on the street. I miss the game.”
Kent said (Houston) “it was probably close to my favorite. I really loved it here. I miss that. I miss the fans.” Link
