The Good Lord Will’n and the Creek Don’t Rise

Lance “To me, this is the best team we’ve had, probably since ’04. I really like this team. Call me crazy. … ”

“You keep hearing, ‘Oh the pitching, oh the pitching.’ But everybody has some questions. If our starters stay healthy, there is no reason why we can’t win 90 games. ”

Roy  “To me, we’ve got on of the best lineups in the [National League] Central,” he said. “I’d rank our lineup right there with the Cubs any day. Our thing is starting pitching. We have to get deep into ballgames.”

The rotation has three recipients of Tommy John ligament replacement surgery (Mike Hampton, Russ Ortiz and Brian Moehler) and an oft-injured lefty in Wandy Rodriguez. And there are no starters under the age of 30.

oh lovely,

“We need those guys to stay healthy — Hampton and Ortiz,” Oswalt said. “I think they can be pretty solid, but the thing is, they have to stay healthy, make their 30, 35 starts. And we need Wandy to pick up a little more than last year, innings-wise. If we can have one other guy throw 200 innings, we’ll be in really good shape.”

“Nobody’s got unlimited depth,” Wade said. “No matter how deep a rotation people have, nobody’s got unlimited depth. We’re comfortable with where we are right now.”

“We can’t afford to lose anybody,” Cooper said (of the starting pitchers). “We need to see some of those [stats] you see on the back of the baseball card.”
