Astros ace righthander Roy Oswalt will play for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic in March.

“If I only play three more years, this would be a good opportunity,” Oswalt said. “I thought it’d be a great time to do it and try to win a gold medal.” Link

Roy could care less about the Hall of Fame, he wants the gold.   He’ll be playing with some Yankees, so watch for the Roy to NY rumors to crank up.

Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez will play in the World Baseball Classic this spring,

However not the pitchers,

the Yankees’ new starting pitchers almost certainly will not. C. C. Sabathia participated in 2006 but said he was likely to decline his invitation this time. A. J. Burnett said definitively that he would not take part if asked.

“I’ll tell them no — big no,” Burnett said. “Bigger and better things. It’s a cool thing, but it’s just not for me.” Link
