Here is your brief update from the HWL & AFL.
HWL
Jason Castro remains hot, hitting in his last 6 games and in 8 of his last 9. He is hitting .349 through 13 games. He is striking out about one every five at bats (9/43) and he has taken 9 walks so his discipline at the plate is looking pretty good.
As hot as Castro is, Parraz is not. He is ice cold. His average has dropped to .135 and he has 12 K’s in 37 AB. Three of his five hits came in a game on Oct. 9th. He has gone 0 for 14 since.
Christopher Hicks continues his good outing bad outing track record of the HWL. He gave up 2 runs last night in two innings. His ERA is at 7.20 through 10 IP. One mark of improvement is that his strike out numbers have started to leave the walk numbers behind. After 5 outings, he had 5 K and 4 BB since then, he has K’d 8 and walked 2.
AFL
Drew Sutton is proving to be a man among boys in the AFL. He leads the league in hitting (.600), slugging (1.000), OBP (.680) and OPS (1.680). He is tied for the league in HR (2) and tied for 4th in stolen bases (3). He only has 2 strike outs in 20 AB.
Brian Bogusevic returned to action Saturday night and went 2 for 4 on the evening. He played CF and had an outfield assist, throwing a runner out at 3rd.
Brad James didn’t fair as well Saturday night. He had the dreaded *.** ERA for his outing. He faced 3 batters and they all reached base on hits and all scored. His ERA through three outings (3.0 IP) is 18.00.
Chris Johnson is having a solid showing. He is hitting .310 in 29 AB. His 4 doubles lead the team, so he is showing some pop. He has to become more selective. He has struck out 7 times while only walking 1.
Bud Norris had his best outing of the spring this weekend. He went 2 innings allowing no hits, one walk and sent two batters back to the dugout with their bat in their hand. Through 5 1/3 innings, he has a 1.69 ERA.
Sergio Perez has a 5.40 ERA through his two starts. He has struck out 6 while walking 2.
Mark Ori’s average took a dive when he went 0 for 5 on Saturday. It dropped him from .250 down to .154 in a limited sample size of 13 AB in 3 games.
Chris Blazak hasn’t pitched since 10/9 so their may be some problems here.
