The end is here for the Astros playoff run. Love means never having to say you’re sorry, and the Astros players have nothing to say sorry about. They gave us fans a great season.
I’ll be back, Brian Moehler gave up no hits through three innings. While he was doing his job, the position players were doing theirs.
Kaz Matsui lead off the bottom of the first with a double. Michael Bourn bunted, Jorge Campillo‘s throw to first went past Casey Kotchman. Bourn ended up on a second and Matsui ended up in the dugout after scoring the first run of the game.
Bottom of the second Ty Wiggington scored on his 23rd homerun of the season.
Bottom of the third, Bourn lead off with a single, makes it to second on Miguel Tejada‘s ground out to short. Then Mr. I feel the need — the need for speed! Michael Bourn showcased his speed tonight scoring from second on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Lance Berkman. Geoff Blum then got his 14th double of the season and Hunter Pence followed with his 34th double scoring Blum, Astros lead 4-0.
Top of the fourth presented Moehler with problems. Josh Anderson, former Astros September call-up, lead off with a double, Kelly Johnson walked, Brian McCann singled to load the bases. Kotchman singled to score Anderson and Johnson. Jeff Francoeur flied out to end the Braves half only scoring 1/2 the runs they needed.
Tim Brydak and Doug Brocail pitched 1.1 scoreless innings.
LaTroy Hawkins, came in to pitch the eighth inning. Anderson led off with a double, Martin Prado singled, Johnson hit a sacrifice fly scoring Anderson. The only earned run scored off of Hawkins as an Astro this season. Nice job young man.
Top of the ninth, Astros leading by 1 run, Jose Valverde to close it out maybe thinking “Well, here’s another nice mess you’ve gotten me into.” Omar Infante walked , Francoeur singled, Brandon Jones grounded into double play, ruled out because he made a turn to left after Jose Valverde’s fielding error, Infante scored during the play to tie the game. Well, nobody’s perfect, describes Jose Valverde’s performance in the ninth.
Bottom of the ninth, score tied. Mr. I’m king of the world!, Darin Erstad, homered to walk off the field winners.
Bench Tidbits:
“I’ll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too!”, what the BBGs are saying to Carlos Zambrano and the Chicago Cubs.
After all, tomorrow is another day!, Round up the usual uspects the Good Guys will be playing tomorrow.
I’m going to make him an offer he can’t refuse, is hopefully what Drayton McLanes says to some great “Show me the money!” free agent pitching.
Fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a bumpy night, or void now that the Astros are eliminated.
Thanks for reading my recaps. There have been some fun ones and some not so fun ones. I hope everyone has a safe, healthy and happy void.
