Berkman targets the acquisition of Wolf, and reliever LaTroy Hawkins a week later, as the keys to the Astros’ turnaround.
“They’re probably the two biggest reasons we were able to make the run that we were to be able to get back to where we are right now,” Berkman said.

Sampson out
Chris Sampson underwent an MRI on Wednesday hoping for a simple diagnosis of tendinitis, but after consulting with team doctor Tom Mehlhoff later that day, the right-hander now is contemplating surgery.
Sampson has a slight tear in the tendon in his right elbow, an injury that he can handle in one of two ways — rest and rehab with the intention of staving off surgery, or undergo a procedure that would repair the tear and require four to six months of rehab before returning to the mound. Link
Pitching and defense, but mostly pitching
Ed Wade and Cecil Cooper will head into this offseason hoping to add pitching help.
“Pitching. Pitching. Our defense has been pretty doggone good,” said Cooper.
“As a matter of fact it’s probably the best in the league. It comes down to the next thing.”
Wade’s on the same page.
“That’s our primary focus, which as I said puts us where 25 other clubs will be this offseason,” he said. Link
I think they’ll start with trying to sign Randy Wolf.
