(Footer) Towles will probably see the most playing time of all of the callups. (Cooper said. “It won’t be a regular rotation, but he’ll get some work.”) Humberto Quintero will continue to receive regular work, and Brad Ausmus will finish the season as Roy Oswalt’s personal catcher.

At the beginning of the season, there was this,
“I think the days have gone by when we have that luxury (personal catchers) any more,” Cooper said. … At some point you’ve got to get past that, you really have to.”
“That [having Ausmus catch the youngsters] is the ideal situation,” Cooper said. “[If] J.R. Towles is our catcher of the future, then he needs to catch everybody. …
“If Brad’s not here next year, [Towles] has got to catch them. So at some point, we have to start moving it that way….Wandy might benefit from having a veteran guy. We’ll just have to see how this plays out, see who’s in the rotation.” Link
Do we owe an AP reporter an apology?
Playing time for Bourn?
Michael Bourn was back in center field for Tuesday’s game, …”You look at the scenario,” Cooper said. “I wanted to give Darin [Erstad] a day off today. This guy has gone nine innings every single game for 10 in a row. I’d planned to give him a break.” Link
To give Erstad a rest? Cause I thought…
Cecil Cooper said center fielder Michael Bourn would get the majority of the starts in center field during September.
“Young players need to be consistent, and the only way they can get consistent is they have to play.” Link
This has been posted elsewhere, but in case you hadn’t seen it
Geoff Geary hasn’t pitched since Aug. 26, due to recurring pain near his right groin. As for a projected return date, Geary said simply, “hopefully, Colorado.”
Realistically, however, Geary probably won’t be cleared to pitch until the team returns home to host the Pirates on Monday. He may throw a bullpen session some time during the Rockies series, possibly Friday. Link
