September callups “I don’t view September as a reward situation,” he said. “If there’s a particular player that we feel we need to take a good, hard look at, there’s an opportunity to do that.”
But, Wade said, most of the veterans who have been instrumental for Houston all season will still see the majority of the playing time.
“We’ve had guys here all year long who have grinded it out when other people wanted us to close up shop, from the standpoint of acquiring players or playing the game,” Wade said. “Those guys refused to do that. Realistically, the players that have stepped up here over the course of the season deserve to continue to get the opportunities to play the game.”

Slightly less than “instant” replay
Ed Wade is against instant replay. “It could become a slippery slope issue where we start out with fair or foul, and before you know it we’re reviewing a lot of things,”

like phantom catches
Astros general manager Ed Wade sent an e-mail to Major League Baseball’s vice president of umpiring, Mike Port, to express his frustration over the call first-base umpire Mike Winters missed Saturday night. (The one hop “catch” by Schumaker in center)
“Yeah, (Port) said he’d look into it,” Wade said.

Instant replay bad, a week later replay good? The real reason that Wade sent the email is because of how Winters treated Cooper.
