SnS Ladies Night at Minute Maid Park tonight. We were not alone, there were a lot of Jakes fans. As usual, some were behaved, most were not. There was this one donkey a section over that thought Troy Glaus’ foul bowl was a homerun, he was making a donkey of himself. He did not cheer loudly when Glaus then made an out.
Granted the Jakes fans had more to cheer about early, but there really was not much to cheer about. If Randy Wolf had fielded the “hit” off of Ryan Ludwick instead of mishandling it then throwing it away, he might not have even scored in the fourth inning. Then again, who knows besides the BBGs.
The first of two ground ruled doubles hit by the Jakes score their second run in the sixth inning.
Chris Sampson kept the game close y not allowing any runs in the two innings he pitched. Finally in the seventh inning the Astros decided to get on the board. Hunter Pence singled and scored on the homerun hit by David Newhan. Scored tied.
Doug Brocail came in to pitch the ninth, he gave up a hit to Alberta Pujols but got Ryan Ludwick to ground into a double play. Glaus ended the top of the ninth by striking out.
Bottom of the ninth, Miguel Tejada continued his hitless game by grounding out. Lance Berkman comes in to bat. He hits long foul ball down the right field line. Jake fans all excited after Glaus had a long foul ball. But Berkman is no Glaus, he hit the next ball to left centerfield. I was so worried this hit was going to be caught in the corner by the Jakes bullpen but the BBGs were determined to hve the first annual SnS Ladies Night end with lots of fireworks. Thank you BBGs.
Bench Tidbits:
The walk off homerun by Lance Berkman was his first in his career. Congrats to you Mr. Berkman.
There was some discussion as to why Cecil Cooper pinched hit Michael Bourn in the sixth inning.
The Brad Ausmus Bobblehead figurine is no comparison to Ausmus in person.
Thanks to JaneDoe for organizing the SnS Ladies Night. Thanks to Amy for letting me and JaneDoe posting and an extra special thanks to BatGirl for the tickets. There was discussion of having another Ladies Night next year.
