Hunter Pence supposedly predicted he would hit a home run before Sunday’s two-run blast off Oliver Perez, Cooper said Monday.
Despite sitting out the day before, Cooper never needs to wonder about the 25-year-old’s confidence at the plate, because he’ll never admit any pitcher has great stuff. And even if he would, Pence is never shy about saying, “I’ll hit him.” “That’s one thing you never have to worry about with him,” Cooper said. “You hope it rubs off on some other guys.”
… Cooper has revealed a few Astros who might consider Winter League ball, including Bourn and Humberto Quintero. Reggie Abercrombie is also considering playing in the offseason. “Those are guys that probably need to go,” Cooper said. (Jon Blau, an associate reporter for MLB.com, tells us) Abercrombie, for one, needs the at-bats. He has only 29 on the season.

Reggie has 289 abs this season in Round Rock.
Shea Stadium, which opened in 1964, will always be special to the Astros’ Ty Wigginton, who came up through the Mets’ farm system and ultimately made his first major-league start at Shea.
“It’s beautiful to me,” he said.
