Got to be honest, I was watching the Olympics. I was recording this game, but have decided to not to stay up late watching it. According to the score the 3rd honeymoon Astros fans have been on the last week is over.
The only noteable players for the Astros on this night seem to be Ty Wiggington (2 for 3 with a HR) and Wesley Wright (1 scoreless inning, only Astro pitcher to not give up a run). Not-so-honorable mentions go to Wandy Rodriguez (2.2 innings of work, did not have anything good on the night) and Miguel Tejada (0-4, 1 K and 3 LOB). I’d give Tim Brydak a not-so-honorable mention, but he has been pretty solid for most of the season so he gets a break tonight.
Now for the reason of the title of this recap. Phil Dalhousse and Todd Rogers were down 6-0 in the 3rd set of their game and won to advance. After all the volleyball I’ve watched this past week I rarely see a 6-0 run by any team. Great to see the Americans not give up.
Dara Torres, 41 year old, Olympic swimmer, won her heat in 50m Freestyle to take the #1 seed in the final. What makes her even more special is that she asked the judges to wait for another swimmer who had trouble with her swimsuit. Great sportsmanship.
Janet Evans, 1988 Olympic swimmer, had her 1989 World Record time in the 800m freestyle broken by Rebecca Adlington some Brit chick. I’m sure Limey will be happy.
Tyson Gay, 100 meter, came in 2nd in his quarterfinal (apparently 4=5 in China), but did not overdo the run. He and his hamstring are ready for the semi-finals.
The men’s USA volleyball team rocked China. Imagine the stress their head coach,Hugh McCutcheon, has been groing through after the attack on his family. Oh, and a lot of the volleyball players are good looking.
Michael Phelps, some swimmer dude, won another race. He did not record the world record, slacker, but he did outreach Serbian Milorad Cavic by a fingernail. Literally won by a fingernail. .01 was the difference in the times. Ian Crocker missed 3rd by the same amount. This is Michael’s 7th gold medal of the game. He really and truly is amazing. I’m not sure how he is doing it, but damm, keep it up young man. You have another race to go. He was interviewed later with Mark Spitz, both seemed very gracious. It does make one wonder how fast Spitz would have been if he had the technological advances. Both are amazing athletes.
So, congrats to all the Olympians. You are making Americans proud.
Bench Tidbits:
