Round Rock lost a close 2-1 game in Memphis last night. Nick Gorneault hit his 18th homer of the season to account for the lone run.
Corpus Christi got a 4 for 4 night from Mitch Einertson to lead to a 9-8 victory. Einertson is hitting .368 since his return from the DL in July. Prior to going on the DL, he was hitting .221.
Bud Norris is getting some attention for his pitching arsenal.
“He’s got a good arm — a power arm,” a veteran American League scout said. “It’s lively and it’s got angles. He’s the best pitching prospect here.”
“I think he reminds me a lot of Roy (Oswalt),” (pitching coach Stan) Boroski said. “He’s got the riding fastball and hard breaking ball. Albers was a little looser and livelier and less under control than Bud is. Jason, with his body type (6-foot-8, 250 pounds), was a little more downhill than Bud is. But stuff-wise, they’re all very similar.”
Salem was glad to see Douglas Arguello get back to form last night in their 4-1 win over Myrtle Beach.
“It was good to see,” Pankovits said. “You’re always concerned with these young kids how they’re going to respond to adversity. He’s got unbelievable stuff as a pitcher, nothing’s straight. To be able to do what he did to this team, they’re the best hitters in the league.”
Lexington’s return to their losing ways continued as they lost their 7th straight.
Tri Cities stranded 15 men in their 5-2 loss.
“We had men in scoring position and we needed that big hit. We’ve had that, but we didn’t do it tonight,” ValleyCats manager Pete Rancont said. “You take your hats off to them (Batavia). They put some good arms out there and stuffed us.”
Greeneville waited out a rain delay and lost in a pitching duel 1-0.
“We played better defense than we did last night,” (Manager Rodney Linares) said. “I mean you really can’t play worse defense than we did last night.”
“We’ve been struggling offensively,” Linares said. “We were a little too aggressive. We were swinging at balls out of the strike zone tonight. The third baseman made a great play. That would have made it a tie game, but it didn’t. Sometimes you just got to roll with it.”
