The farm teams went 4-1 last night with Lexington having the night off.
Round Rock beat Portland to wrap up their road trip to the left coast. J. R. Towles homered and had an RBI single in the game.
Corpus Christi‘s Polin Trinidad pitched well and Brian Bogusevic finished a homer short of the cycle as the Hooks won 11-1. The big inning for the offense was a 7 run 8th that was highlighted by a home run blast from Mitch Einertson.
Trinidad won his second straight outing.
“He (looked) very comfortable,” manager Luis Pujols said. “Sometimes pitchers go through some bad (patches), and the good pitchers always find a way to go back to their rhythm and pitch well.”
Salem missed an extra point and held Fredrick to 3 field goals in their 20-9 victory. The Avs had 20 hits, 10 of them for extra bases. Tim Torres went 4 for 5 with 3 doubles, 4 runs scored and 3 RBI. Koby Clemens also went 4 for 5 with a double, and a home run. He knocked in 5 and scored 3. Only Orlando Rosales didn’t get a hit but he still scored one run and plated two others.
Tri Cities was the lonesome loser. Although it was the it was the Ironbirds and not the Queen of Hearts that did the damage. J. B. Shuck was tagged out at home trying to score the tying run in the 9th to end the game. Pete Rancont thought he was safe.
“They got to make the call right then, and as far as I’m concerned it’s ancient history,” Rancont said. “They’re human, too.”
Greeneville staged a late comeback thanks to the bat of Frederico Hernandez. He hit a 2 run blast in the the top of the 9th to put Greeneville up 4-3. Patrick Urckfitz got his first professional win. With his second straight shut out appearance, Urckfitz lowered his ERA to 1.54. He has struck out 15 in his 11 2/3 innings of work and has only allowed 7 hits and 6 walks. He has yet to give up a run in 5 road appearances.
Jordan Lyles rebounded from a rough first (2 runs on 4 hits) to give Greeneville five solid innings (5 hits, 2 runs, no BB, 3 Ks).
