Not much to cheer about from this weekend.
Round Rock spent the weekend in the northwest playing Tacoma and Portland.
Friday night, they lost to Tacoma with Oscar Villareal getting the win. Saturday, the Express were defeated by Tacoma 4-1. Sunday, the Express snapped their 4 game losing streak with a win over Portland 7-4. The big blow in this game was a 3-run homer by Reggie Abercrombie in the 11th inning. Ray Sadler continues his hot hitting. In his last 10 games, he is hitting .472 with 4 HR & 6 doubles.
Corpus Christi lost all three games this weekend. Friday night was rained out so they played two on Saturday and lost both. Sunday, the Hooks were beaten for the 7th straight time by Midland. Brian Bogusevic has responded well to the move tot he outfield. At the plate he is hitting .323 in his last 10 games with 3 HR.
Salem was swept this weekend as their losing continues. Friday, Koby Clemens summed up the teams play.
“It’s baseball: sometimes you’re hot and sometimes you lose it,” Clemens said. “Making the playoffs would be tough, but it’s be nice to have another streak like that. We know we can do it; we’ve shown it. We can get the bats going well. We’ve been pitching well.
“Team-wise it feels like we’ve been underachieving because we’ve got some good players on this team.”
Saturday, it was close but still a loss. Sunday, the sweep was complete. David Qualben has not been as effective this year and thinks he knows why:
“It’s funny because I’m not missing with my offspeed pitches; I’ve been throwing them with effectiveness,” Qualben said. “I’m not locating with my fastball. I’m convinced it’s something mental.”
Lexington’s winning streak was snapped on Friday and a losing streak started. Saturday they lost 12-3 and Sunday they lost one late giving up bases loaded double with two outs in the 8th. Lexington has found the long ball. Brian Pellegrini has hit 4 home runs in his last 7 games and Kyle Miller has hit 4 HR in his last 8 games.
Tri Cities had their weekend rained out.
Greeneville started the weekend strong but faded out. Friday, they completed a rain suspended game and played a 7 inning version of a regularly scheduled game. They split the two games. Saturday, Arcenio Leon started in place of the injured Luis Cruz and pitched adequately but the offense didn’t help in the 5-1 loss. Sunday, the offense was no where to be found as they G-stros were shut out and Kyle Greenewalt’s quality start was wasted in a 2-0 loss.
