The big news down on the farm today was that Lexington’s Matt Cusick was traded to the Yankees for LaTroy Hawkins and some cash. Cusick, earlier in the day had driven in two runs for the Legends as they won a late morning affair over the Hagerstown Suns.
“We like Matt. He’s swinging the bat very well at Lexington,” Astros General Manager Ed Wade said. “We consider him a prospect, and obviously, the Yankees consider him a prospect also.”
Lexington who has quite honestly been awful for much of the season has won 10 of their last 12.
Tri Cities turned a baseball game into a marathon last night. Danny Meier hit a walk off 2 run home run in the bottom of the 13th to give the ValleyCats a 5-4 victory.
Salem gave up 4 runs in the 9th to lose 5-2. Cory Bass pitched a solid game and Jordan Parraz stretched his hitting streak to 13 games.
Roster Movement
After the game, (Chris) Salamida (4-2, 5.75 ERA) was promoted to Double-A Corpus Christi on a 7-10 day assignment, Pankovits said, to fill in for injured reliever Evan Englebrook.
In Salamida’s place, the Avalanche will get right-handed reliever Jordan Powell (1-7, 3.52) from low-A Lexington.
Corpus Christi was embarrassed 13-0 last night. They only had two hits and newly signed pitcher Bo Hall gave up 2 home runs as a part of his five run inning of work. The Hooks also committed 5 errors, 3 of those by Drew Sutton.
“Personally, this is the most embarrassed I’ve ever been,” a glum Sutton said. “That’s really all I’ve got.”
Round Rock got out slugged 8-5 by Tacoma. Salder and Towles homered for the Express but Express pitchers gave up 4 homers resulting in 7 of the 8 runs.
Greeneville pitchers couldn’t find the strike zone as they walked 10 batters and hit another. Meanwhile Greeneville hitters couldn’t get a handle on Elizabethon pitcher Daniel Osterbrock who struck out 12 G-Stros for the second game in a row! He fanned 12 Greeneville hitters on his last start on the 24th. Osterbrock leads the Appy League with 64 strike outs in 47 1/3 innings. He has only walked 6 batters. Greeneville lost 10-4. David Dinelli’s struggles continued as he walked 4 batters and hit a batter in 1 2/3 innings pitched.
