Box Score
This is what Astros fans deserve. Good baseball. Good pitching, good hitting, and good defense. Brian Moehler did a great job going 7 innings give up 1 run on 4 hits. The lone run was a homerun by Asshole Jim Edmonds (his 28th against the Astros).
Ted Lilly used trickery on the night, the Astros got only 1 run in 7 innings. But the run he gave up was a monster homerun hit by Carlos Lee, The Raups reported in the GameZone that it high-fived them on the way out. The Astros threatened at other times, but prior to the ninth inning, Carlos was the only one to get it done.
But, all good games must come to an end. Bottom of the ninth, Miguel Tejada steps in to bat against Bobby Howry, he was 2 for 3 on the night, swings at the fastball for strike one, fouled the second pitch for strike two, fouled the third pitch for strike three, ball one, smack to right field for a ground rule double. Great start to the ninth.
Next up, Hunter Pence. 2 for 3 on the night. First pitch, hit to Asshole Edmonds in centerfield. Tejada scores. Single, double who cares Astros Win, Astros Win.
Geoff Geary did a great job going 2 innings of no-hit baseball to get the win and shut down the Cubs. Let’s hope he is back to where he was before his injury earlier in the season.
Great start to the second half of the season. Astros are now only 12 games back from first in the central division (6 games under .500). I feel something good brewing. Plus, there is nothing better than sending Cubs fans home with their months shut.
Bench Tidbits:
FSN Spotlight on Brad Ausmus 10:00 pm CST Saturday (7-20).
One hit all night with men in scoring position, luckily, it was Pence’s hit in the 9th for the win.
Apparently the AC was turned off in the ballpark during the All Star break. Hopefully when I get to the game on Sunday it will be cooled down.
Be sure to check out the GameZone for Friday’s game emotions and other stuff.
Mark Raup’s Series Preview is his usual great stuff.
