Round Rock rode a 3 run homer from new addition Lou Santangelo to a 6-3 victory. The winning pitcher was Josh Muecke, who was named to the AAA PCL All Star Team before the game.
Corpus Christi got drilled 8-1 by Tulsa last night. Brian Bogusevic gave up 5 runs on 5 hits in 4 innings to take the loss.
Salem‘s Jason Dominguez had not given up a run in the month of June but the turn of the calendar wasn’t kind to him. He gave up 3 runs in the 9th inning after getting two outs to blow the save and allow the game to go to extra innings. In the 12th, David Qualben gave up a solo shot to allow Lynchburg a 7-6 victory over the Avs.
Jordan Parraz reached base 6 times during the game. He was 4-5 at the plate with 3 doubles and two walks.
Lexington was shut out 4-0 last night. Are they struggling at the plate?
“I think that’s an understatement,” Manager Gregg Langbehn said after watching his team score fewer than four runs for the 42nd time this season. “I’ve never known many teams that didn’t score. They pitched good; we just never threatened.”
Tri Cities gave up 4 runs in the 9th to lose 7-4.
“We have lost too many ballgames in the eighth and ninth innings. We have to learn how to finish the game,” said Tri-City manager Pete Rancont. Tri-City lost Wednesday’s game to Jametown when the Jammers hit back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning to secure a 5-3 victory.
“These guys are young and inexperienced so it’s not too shocking that they are having a little trouble to close out games. It’ll come with experience.” Rancont said.
Greeneville (4-11) faced Elizabethton (13-3) last night. Looking at those numbers, you would expect the game to be a mismatch but it was one of the best games I have every witnessed at Pioneer Park in Greeneville. Elizabethton starter Brad Tippett lost a no hitter with two outs in the 6th. Greeneville starter Henry Villar, scattered 3 hits over his 6 innings. In the 7th, Colton Pitkin continued the shutout for Villar, while the Greeneville bats finally figured out Tippett.
Greeneville put together 4 straight hits that resulted in 2-0 lead. PItkin continued to shut out the E-Twins, who came in with a team batting average of .318, while Greeneville added an insurance run in the 8th. The fireworks crowd of 3632 was sent away with the fond memory of a 3-0 victory. PItkin’s 3 innings pitched allowed him to meet the IP requirements to climb back into the Appy League leaders. His 0.60 ERA is #1 in the league.
