Round Rock got 2 runs of rehabbing Eric Gagne but it wasn’t enough as Nashville beat Round Rock 8-5. Gagne’s rehab stint lasted only 2/3 of an inning where he threw 27 pitches. He threw a wild pitch and hit a batter.
“After having three surgeries in a year and a half, it’s more important just to be healthy right now,” the 240-pound right-hander said.
Corpus Christi used some fresh blood to aid a comeback for a 4-3 win. Newly acquired Jerrod Ball pinch ran and Val Majewski bunted him to second. The throw on the bunt was thrown in to center putting both Ball & Majewski in scoring position. Eli Iorg came through with a solid single to put the Hooks ahead for the win.
Ball, was signed in the off season and spent Spring Training with the Hooks but was released when camp broke. He was re-signed to fill the spot of Mitch Einertson who was placed on the DL with an injured knee. Both Ball & Majewski had been playing in the independent Atlantic League.
Salem had 7 extra base hits in their 6-3 victory over the Blue Rocks yesterday. Jordan Parraz had two doubles, and Colin Delome had a double and a triple to pace the Avalanche offensively.
Lexington battled back for a 8-7 victory at West Virginia. Brian Pellegrini hit two home runs but those were paired with some nice small ball to win the game.
Tri-City’s Phil Disher continues to mash in the NY Penn League. Disher lead the ValleyCats’ 19 hit attack by going 3-4 with a double and a triple. David Flores (4 for 5) and Renaldo Pestana (3 for 5) also had impressive days at the plate as the ValleyCats won 9-7.
Greeneville was defeated by Danville 4-3 last night. The G’stros had a chance to get back in the game in the top of the ninth but it wasn’t to be.
With the D-Braves leading 4-3 in the top of the ninth inning and the potential tying run on third base with one out, Greeneville’s Renzo Tello lined out to third baseman Jon Gilmore, who dove at and tagged Frederico Hernandez before he could get back to the bag for an unassisted, game-ending double play.
The story of the game was trumped by an on field event during the game involving a Danville player and the Danville Mascot Blooper.
The D-Braves’ lovable, furry green mascot was blindsided by the 19-year-old second-year infielder during a run-the-bases promotion between the first and second innings of Danville’s 4-3 victory against the Greeneville Astros on Thursday at Dan Daniel Park. The little boy running alongside Blooper, who was being portrayed for the first time by first-year D-Braves game-day employee Seth Scarce, a member of the Tunstall High wrestling team, abruptly stopped after rounding third.
The youngster turned and stared at the green bird as he lay crumpled in the dirt just short of third base…. The little boy helped Blooper to his feet after a couple of awkward minutes and the two walked off the field together holding hands.
Player doesn’t take responsibility after “laying the wood”
“They told me before the game to take him out. It was fun, though. It was fun,” Gilmore said, blaming the team’s front office for the on-field attack of Blooper, who was immortalized last season with his very own bobblehead. “I thought the little kid was scared of me after that. He stopped and made me look like the bad guy. He went over there and helped him up.
“It was one of the interns that do all the games and stuff. He said that when the mascot comes around, just give him a hit. … I didn’t want to just tap him and him not go over, so I decided to lay the wood.”
