I promise that no GM’s were harmed in the making of this Farm Update. The PCL & Carolina Leagues had the night off. The Texas League had their all star game last night. Corpus Christi players represented fairly well in the South’s 10th inning win.
Johnson was 2 for 3 with a single and double, and Manzella and Paz were each 1 for 2. Blazek pitched a scoreless fifth inning, and was relieved by McKeller, who pitched a 1-2-3 sixth.
Lexington
The Legends Leandro Cespedes went 6 2/3 innings striking out 8 batters but go no decision in the 2-1 loss yesterday. Brandon Barnes also had his hitting streak snapped. However, as rough as the season is for the Legends the business side is still doing okay.
On the business side,“ Stein said, ”considering the economy and the way the team is playing, we’re about flat with last year, which we think is pretty good.“
However, CEO Alan Stein does wish they had a better ball club and he has met with Smith/Wade to discuss it.
”They know what’s going on,“ Stein said. ”And it’s not just us. It’s the whole organization. Round Rock is like 15 games under .500. (Actually 34-45.) Same with Corpus Christi (31-45) and Salem (32-44). They’re aware of the problem.“
Tri City
The ValleyCats put together back to back wins for the first time this season with an 8-6 win last night. Phil Disher has put together an impressive start to his pro career. He has hit in 7 of 8 games and is batting .406. He leads the NY Penn League with that average as well as with his 3 HR and 13 RBI.
Greeneville
The G’stros saw a close game get away late. The Johnson City Cards scored 5 runs in the top of the 9th to pull away to a 10-4 lead. Greeneville got back 3 in the bottom half with a 3 run homer from Kody Hinze but it wasn’t enough as the Astros lost 10-7. Jay Austin went 3 for 5 to pace Greeneville. Frank Almonte hit his first home run of the season, a 2 run shot in the 1st inning.
