Steve Campbell writes an incoherent, almost illegible comment in today’s paper. One of his bigger bone head statements laments the signing of Carlos Lee and “the folly of spending $100 million for a one-dimensional slugger”. Granted, Lee is challenged in the field, but he is anything but a one-dimensional hitter. The “good part” of the comment amounts to about half a sentence,

Think about that next time you read or hear someone suggesting the Astros stop signing free agents, or to let the kids play, or trade everyone for minor league players, or that the answer is 5 years away in the minors, or look to Tampa Bay as a model, or even the Colorado Rockies (31-43).
Hungover?
Gone were the big crowds. Gone was the energy. Gone was the win.
They lost in front of only 14,741 – 19,700 less people than Thursday’s crowd.
The Rays lost on a night when they looked like they just didn’t have it, that maybe the emotions that carried them to the three-game sweep of the Cubs left a hangover of sorts.
The Rays looked, well, spent.
“I think it’s contingent upon the pitching,” Rays manager Joe Maddon said. “If their guy wasn’t that good, we could have maintained that intensity level.”
