At the Bus Stop, we like to reward winning, so we will being our trip around the farm with the only team that won last night.
Greeneville started Jordan Lyle in Kingsport last night. He only went two innings but they were shut out innings. Lyles gave up 3 hits, hit one batter but walked none and struck out one in his two innings of work.
“We wanted to limit him starting out,” said Linares. “His fastball was good and he was effectively wild.”
David Denelli followed up with 3 scoreless innings allowing only one hit. However, Denelli gave up 5 walks while striking out 2. Zack Grimmett added two scoreless innings in his pro debut and Colton Pitkin completed the shut out with two scoreless innings of his own.
Jay Austin went 2 for 3 from the lead off spot and made a nice running catch in the outfield.
“He can go get ’em,” said Linares. “He’s smart and knows how to position himself in the outfield. He’s also hitting the ball better. I expect a lot of good things from him.”
Greeneville returns home tonight following their 8-0 shutout of Kingsport.
Round Rock’s offense couldn’t support a solid outing by Ron Chiavacci as they lost 3-2.
Corpus Christi was shut out for a team record 10th time this season. They hit or ran into 4 double pays on the night as they lost 2-0. Wlad Sutil ran into a double play in the 4th, when he tried to tag and advance to 3rd on a fly ball to left field.
“I talked to him, and to me, that’s a bad play,” Pujols said. “It’s a bad play because you’re already in scoring position and it’s not guaranteed that you’re going to be safe, especially with the ball hit to left field.
“If it was hit to center, maybe, or to right, he could probably do it. But the ball was hit to left field. I don’t mind being aggressive, but I don’t think it was a good play at that time.”
Salem had a rough, rough night last night in their 10-2 defeat.
Salem committed three errors, its pitchers combined to walk seven batters, hit an eighth and threw two wild pitches — and catcher Koby Clemens added a passed ball.
The Avalanche also combined for just five hits, three in the first inning, off a starting pitcher this same lineup knocked out of action in just two-thirds of an inning in his last outing.
Lexington hoped the second half would start better than the first but no such luck as the Legends went down 4-3.
”The three parts of the game (are) fielding, hitting and pitching,“ Pellegrini said. ”We can put maybe one out of three together every game instead of putting three out of three. I think if we can go out there and play good defense, swing the bats and hopefully get some good pitching, we’ll be all right.“
Brandon Barnes continued his hitting streak with a single, stole a base and made a diving catch in right field.
Tri Cities tried to rally from down 4-1 but came up short as they lost 7-6.
