The VSL is underway and after 18 games, the V-Stros are playing .500 ball. Let’s see how they are stacking up against the 8 other teams in the league. All stats are as of June 2nd.
The Good:
The Hitters:
The V-Stros are hitting .275 as a team which is second best in the league. They lead the league in OBP and OPS and are second in Slugging. They are first in doubles and RBI’s. They are second in hits, total bases & walks taken.
On a related note, their 18 stolen bases only puts them in 6th place but they have only been caught 3 times. Making a steal 6 out of 7 times is pretty impressive.
Richard Garcia (19 year old / 2nd base) Leads the league with a .438 average. He also leads in slugging, on base percentage, OPS, and tied for first in runs scored and doubles. He is tied for 8th in hits and total bases. Garcia is also tied with 9 other players for 3rd most triples (2).
Oscar Figueroa (20 year old / OF) tied for 3rd most RBI (14). Sixth best OPS and fifth best slugging. He has tied for taken the 2nd most walks (11). Figueroa is also tied for 2nd most total bases (38). He is tied for 3rd most RBI (14). His 3 homers place him in a tie for second most. His 3 doubles tie him for 3rd. He has scored 13 runs which ties him for 6th most. He is also tied for 8th in total bases.
Luis Sumoza (18 year old / 2nd baseman ) is tied for 7th most walks taken.
Luis Alvarez (18 year old/ 1st baseman) has a OPS of 1.060, which is good enough for 2nd highest in the league. His slugging is 2nd best and his OBP is 8th best. He is tied for 4th most runs scored (14) and is tied for 3rd most doubles (6). His 3 homers tie him for second most in the league. He is tied for 8th in total bases.
Jose Lopez (17 year old / OF) is tied for taking the second most walks (11). He is tied for 3rd in RBI (14). Lopez has scored 14 times, tying him for 4th. He is tied for 8th in total hits.

The Pitchers
The V-Stros pitchers may give up the hits, as you’ll see below, but they don’t give many free bases. They have given up the fewest walks (47) and the 3rd lowest number of hit batters (17).
Carlos Quevedo (18 year old / RHP) is toting a microscopic ERA of 0.46 which is the 3rd lowest in the league. His WHIP is the lowest in the league (0.51). He is tied for 6th with 17 Ks in 19 innings pitched.
The Bad
The Hitters:
Strike outs are an issue for some of these guys as the V-Stros have 3 of the top 10 guys who strike out the most.
Nestor Santana ranks in a tie for 3rd with 17 Ks
Raymar Lopez (17 yr old/ SS) is right there with him ( 17 Ks)
Julian Torres (17 yr old / OF) ranks in a tie for 5th most K’s (16).
The Pitchers
The V-Stros pitchers have given up a league high 186 hits and are lucky to have the 3rd highest ERA (3.90). Their 103 runs are the second most surrendered but only 68 have been earned. They have only struck out 87 batters, which puts them at the bottom of the list. Their WHIP is tied for 2nd worst.
Pedro Gomez (16 year old / RHP) has hit 4 batters which places him in a tie for 3rd most.
Rafael Farias (18 year old / RHP) has surrendered the 3rd most runs and the 7th most earned runs.
Gabriel de Jesus Garcia (19 year old / LHP) has surrendered the 5th most runs but only 6 of the 15 have been
