Round Rock
The Express swept a pair of 7 inning games from New Orleans last night. In the first game, Reggie Abercrombie hit his 8th homer of the year to lead the Express to a 3-2 win. Reggie has hit .336 in the month of May with 18 RBI.
In game 2, Chance Douglass doubled and scored a run at the plate. He also picked up the win by only allowing 3 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings of shutout baseball. Chad Pronto was given the save despite giving up a triple and two hit batters in his one inning of work.
The bull pen is getting crowded. Ray King has been signed to a minor league deal after his release from the Nats. Also David Borkowski cleared waivers and accepted his assignment to RR. Add these guys to Sosa’s signing earlier this week and expect some movement in the bullpen.
Corpus Christi
Brian Bogusevic gave up 3 runs in 6 innings. The two big gave up could have had very different outcomes.
Arkansas jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. A hit batter and walk put runners on first and second with two outs, and Corey Smith clubbed a double off the glove of diving left fielder Billy Hart that plated two runs….
Arkansas then added another run in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Jordan Czarniecki’s line drive was misplayed into a triple by Hooks center fielder Eli Iorg. Tim Duff then stroked a RBI double that brought in Czarniecki for a 3-1 advantage.
Salem
Wilmington came into the game with the lowest batting average, lowest slugging percentage and fewest home runs in the league. Small ball is their game as the lead the league with 57 more stolen bases than anyone else in the league. They added to the stolen base total last night with 5 more giving them a gaudy 127 on the season. But the real damage came with the bats. They had 15 hits. Seveen of those were extra base hits (4 doubles, 3 HR). They also were given 7 free passes and one batter was hit by a pitch. That totals 23 base runners on the night.
The Avs starter, Eric Abreu performed adequately enough in his spot start for Polin Trinidad who was called up to CC yesterday. He left the game with a 3 -2 lead. Unfortunately, Josh Appell and Raymar Diaz combined for a 7 run 6th. The Avs couldn’t quite make it back from that deficit. The final was 10-9.
Lexington
Leandro Cespedes struck out 9 Intimidators but allowed 2 runs in his 5 innings. That saddled him with the loss. The Legends did score two runs last night which as many as they had scored in the previous 4 games combined.
Max Sapp had 3 of the Legends 6 hits on the night.
”The past couple of games I’ve been hitting the ball hard, and tonight they started falling,“ Sapp said. ”I’m just now getting my at-bats in. I was out for a month, so I’m just now getting everything back to normal.“
David Qualben made his demotion to Lexington a short one, he has been returned to Salem.
