Cooper told Sampson “just not to think of it as a demotion. He’s got a chance to help us. Instead of one time a week, (now) it could be three times a week or four times. He might be an early guy. He might be anywhere, really.”
“We’ve had a lot of struggles trying to get to the back (8th and 9th) … Cooper said. “And this, we think, gives us the best chance, especially with Geoff Geary not available.”
“Sampson is a guy that can pitch back-to-back days. He’s always been efficient with his pitches. We think he can help us.”
“He’s just pitched well,” Astros manager Cecil Cooper said of Moehler. “He’s thrown strikes; he’s done some things we’ve been preaching from day one in spring training, being efficient with his pitches.

Bullpen help on the way
Geary will likely throw another bullpen session on Thursday, followed by one simulated inning on Saturday. If all goes well, he would rejoin the Astros’ bullpen shortly after the simulated outing.
Geary is eligible to come off the DL on Saturday. Cooper doubts Geary will need to complete a Minor League rehab assignment.
