Round Rock
Saturday night, the Express lost to Omaha for the 9th straight time. According to David Clark, the problems began with Josh Miller leaving the ball up.
“(Miller) started leaving the ball up a little bit and they came out swinging,” Clark said. “When you got a free-swinging club like those guys got over there, when you make mistakes they are going to put a charge on it.”
Sunday, the Express put an end to the futility against Omaha with a 4-2 victory. Runelvys Hernandez out pitched Brandon Duckworth, giving Round Rock another solid 7 inning outing. Ray Sadler, Nick Gorneault and David Newhan all hit homers.
Corpus Christi
Brian Bogusevic got a no decision but he pitched the best he has all year.
“You get a couple of quick outs early in the game and fall into a groove,” Bogusevic said. “I talked during the week with Stan (and minor-league pitching coordinator Britt Burns) that when they get a hit or two, to just keep an even keel, keep making pitches and try not to do too much. It’s just one of those days when you can keep control of the game.”
Bogusevic was efficient going 8 innings with just 87 pitches. However the game went 11 and the Hooks were on the short end of a 1-0 loss.
Sergio Perez wasn’t very sharp and got into trouble early and then left early after getting hit in the pitching hand while attempting to bunt the ball. The Hooks lost 4-1.
Perez on his pitching struggles:
“I just couldn’t get into that rhythm,” Perez said. “I gave up some hits and left the ball up a little bit. I just didn’t have it tonight.”
Perez on his pitching hand:
“It’s bruised right now,” Perez said. “I couldn’t squeeze.”
Salem
Polin Triadad and the Avs hitters were hot Saturday night as the Avs won 10-2.
Sunday, the P-Nats evened the series with a 6-3 win.
Lexington
Saturday, Lexington won 1-0. Their only run came around on 3 errors and a balk. Pitching and defense was solid for a change for the Legends.
“That’s something we keep working on every day,” Langbehn said. “There’s no question that (defense) has hurt us at times this year, but we’ve been in a lot of close games this year. … We’ve had a lot of tight ones, especially the last couple weeks. We’ve found ways to win some and we’ve definitely found some ways to lose them.”
Sunday, the Legends couldn’t get any runs earned or unearned as they lost 4-0. One highlight for the Legends was the debut of Tom Vessella, who was called up from Extended Spring. He pitched 4 shutout innings in relief giving up 5 hits and one walk while striking out 5.
