The Legends let Hagerstown walk away with an 11 inning win. Jordan Powell allowed the tying run in the 9th inning and then loaded the bases in the 11th before Fernando Abad came in to walk the first batter he faced for the 8-7 loss.
Minor League Pitching Coordinator, Brit Burns, likes what he sees from some of the pitchers in Lex.
“I think one of the big things that has become obvious is Jake Leonhardt‘s slider has gotten better … from the last time,” Burns said. “(Sergio) Severino‘s curveball has gotten better, and he’s a little bit more in control of himself on the mound — being a little more consistent, putting some better deliveries on the ball more consistently.
Salem
Salem played a double header Friday night. In game one, Jimmy Van Ostrand hit a grand slam in the 10th to give Salem a 6-2 win. Van Ostrand went 4 for 4 in the game with 5 RBI.
In game two, Erick Abreu threw 5 innings of one hit ball, striking out six P-Nats. Raymar Diaz came in and had one no hit inning in relief. In the seven inning game, Salem lost 1-0 because the one hit their pitcher gave up was a solo home run. The Av’s offense had four hits with the best scoring chance being in the first. Cesar Quintero singled with one out and went to 3rd on a pick off attempt that went awry. The Av’s best two hitters were coming up but MarkOri and Koby Clemens grounded out to end the threat.
Orlando Rosales had hit .361 over his last 10 games and was 7 out of 13 in the last 3. This was good enough to have him called up to Corpus Christi.
Corpus Christi
Tommy Manzella went 3-3 with 3 RBI but the biggest hit knocked Manzella in for the game winning run in the 12th. Billy Hart got his first hit of the game in the 12th that also extended his hitting streak to 13 games and gave the Hooks the win.
“I tried not to think or talk about it, but it’s been brought up a lot tonight,” Hart said. “After that terrible swing I took on that (first-pitch) slider, I thought he’d be coming back to it and I got it and still barely hit it, but got enough to put it in play and get the run across.”
Brad James was solid in his outing, scattering 8 hits over 6 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs but only one was earned.
Bud Norris has been placed on the DL which made room for Orlando Rosales on the roster.
Round Rock
Chad Reineke was solid for 5 innings but he stayed in the game alittle longer. Omaha scored 2 runs in the 6th and 3 in the 7th. The Express got their runs off of solo homers by J. R. House and Ray Sadler. The final was 5-2 Omaha.
