Corpus Christi had the big story for the second night in a row. Houston sent Wandy Rodriguez down to pitch a rehab start and he pitched well. He went 6 innings giving up one run on 4 hits. One of those hits was a solo homer. He walked one batter and didn’t strike out any. He threw 78 pitches during his outing. Chris Johnson continued his good work at the plate going 3 for 4 but his struggles in the field continued with his 17th error of the year.
Eli Iorg got picked off 3rd with the bases loaded in the 8th and no one out. That play turned out to be costly in the 4-3 loss.
“I don’t like to argue a lot,” Pujols said. “It was mixed feelings between the umpire and Eli. There’s no reason why there should be a pickoff play there at third with the bases loaded and no outs.
“I don’t know, he could be safe or out. I was upset because of the play. It shouldn’t happen.”
Round Rock
Jack Cassel continues his solid pitching scattering 9 hits over 8 innings while striking out 5. J. R. House had a perfect 5 for 5 night at the plate.
“My teammates kept making me aware,” he said. “They were kind of razzing me the whole time.
“It was cold tonight. They were standing close to me and saying I was hot.”
The Express won their 7th game out of their last 9.
Lexington
David Qualben performed well out of the pen last night and got back to his picky ways but not much else was positive for Lexington as they lost 7-2.
Salem
Salem lost 6-3 last night. Jimmy Van Ostrand had an 0-4 night with 4 runners left in scoring position with two outs.
