Cooper says “as Jackie Moore likes to say it, ‘When you put the bat down, pick up your glove.’ ”

Sampson recalled a conversation he had with center fielder Michael Bourn prior to his start at Wrigley Field on April 4, after noticing the wind was blowing in.

“I said, ‘Look, …I’m going to throw it down the middle and let you get it.  He did just that. He’s made some tremendous plays out there. And then in L.A. on Sunday, he left his body imprint on the wall [running down a fly ball]. That was a great play.”

Roys wrote in his essay referenced below, “(home) plays as a small park sometimes, but it plays big sometimes, too, if you can get the opposition to hit it to center field”

Wade
“If we had signs or a sense or a feel that (Towles) was giving up on himself, then we might be concerned, but I don’t sense that,” Wade said via phone from San Antonio. “In cases of both he and Michael, we have to be patient. As long as they continue to be receptive and exhibit the work ethic that they’ve shown, we know they’ll be fine.”

DH Plan
Tentatively, Cooper’s leaning toward DHing Berkman on Friday and Sunday, with Carlos Lee taking that role Saturday.

Roy writes!
“Darin Erstad, … has the intensity and focus of a football player, who plays really hard-nosed.”

(Berkman) “If he ever hit like this in New York or Boston, he would be the next president.”
