Lexington
The losses keep coming at home. The Legends committed five errors in the first 5 innings leading to 4 unearned runs. Craig Carrado, who has been hot a the plate, had a hot time at the hot corner committing 3 errors bringing his season total of errors to 10. Ronald Ramirez also committed his 10th of the season. All this adds up to the Legends 10th loss at home this season.
Matt Cusick is a bright spot for the struggling Legends. He leads the league in slugging (.692) and OPS (1.138). Is third in OBP and forth in average. He went 3 for 4 last night with a double. On the down side, he has committed 5 errors in the field.
The Legends as a team have committed 39 errors in 21 games.
Salem
The Avalanche experienced an avalanche in Myrtle Beach. They faced Thomas Hanson, who lead the Carolina league in ERA to begin the night with an 0.00 ERA in 4 starts. The Avs finally scored a run on him in the 7th but by then, they were in a 13-1 hole. Too deep to climb out.
David Qualben is struggling against Carolina League hitters and he didn’t even get a pickoff last night. He gave up 6 runs in 3 innings. Raymar Diaz came on and gave up 5 doubles in 2 innings.
Good thing the Avs are in Myrtle Beach which provides many distractions to take their minds off the licking they just got.
Corpus Christi
The Hooks were the lone bright spot on the farm last night. They had hot bats in their record setting 19-5 victory.
The Hooks’ (12-8) victory came in record-setting fashion, as they established new franchise single-game milestones for runs, hits (24) and margin of victory. The previous high for runs was 15, achieved once in each of the past two seasons. The previous hits mark was 20 on Aug. 11, 2006 against Wichita and the most lopsided win had been a 15-3 shellacking of Springfield last June 3.
Three Hooks just missed hitting for the cycle and another found his long lost homer swing.
Corpus Christi’s Chris Johnson had a grand slam and five runs batted in, finishing a triple shy of the cycle, as did Eli Iorg, who drove in three runs. Ray Sadler also had three RBI and finished a double shy of the cycle. Almost lost in the shuffle was Mitch Einertson hitting his first two home runs of the season.
Pujols was especially pleased to see big nights from Johnson and Einertson, who entered the game hitting .205 and .224, respectively.
“That made me very, very happy, because those are two guys who had a great spring training,” Pujols said. “It’s nice to see those guys in the bottom part of the lineup swing the bats well.”
Round Rock
The key number in the Express game last night was 11. It was how many runs New Orleans scored and it is what Runelvys Hernadez’s era climbed to (11.37) after the game. The result was an 11-5 loss.
