I thought about recycling a previous recap since the theme of the night was “Play Green” but decided the readers of SpikesnStars deserve something new and outstanding. Good Luck getting it.
After watching this game I wasn’t sure who really wanted to win this game. Seemed like they were playing the hot potato game. Each team giving the lead back and forth to each other. Astros, Padres, Astros, Padres tie, Astros win.
Where to start with this game. Berkman hitting a triple, double play, or green caps? Let’s start with the green caps since you get them when you enter the ballpark. Why do people feel the need to do stupid things like paint themself green because of a promotional item? While, ‘going green’ is a great cause, I don’t want to see it on my teams head during a game. I have noticed that the Astros seem to be giving away a lot of baseball caps this season. Good for them. I have not gotten many promotional items yet this year. But, I’m sure I’ll end up with something before the season is over.
I’m really pleased with Berkman this year to date. He seems much more focused and determined. His RBI triple in the first was great. He seems to be running on the basepaths excellent this year. Hell, most of the Astros are running well. Or at least they are against the Padres. Josh Bard, Michelle Barrett, and Colt Morton have given up 25 stolen bases out of 30 attempts. That is really bad.
Michael Bourn was not given the opportunity to steal any bases tonight due to the little groin problem he seems to be suffering. I figure he’ll be ready to run in a couple of days. Darrin Erstad didn’t embarrass himself tonight in centerfield, not that I expected him to do so. I rather like having him and Cruz on the bench. One aspect of the Astros that I think is strong.
Kazuo Matsui seems to like being an Astro. He hits, runs, and fields. Been a joy to watch. Anyone else see his fans in the crowd? I think they have an advantage with the Japanese Lingo game played in between innings. Who wins in an ultimate death match? Carlos’ Los Caballitos or Matsui’s Ninja’s? How great would be Kazoo’s on Kaz Matsui night?
This is my first and hopefully only opportunity to say anything about Jim Edmonds. I hate him. JR Towles’ throw was just a tad high on Edmond’s stolen base. His homerun last night was his first this season. I really hate that eyeliner, mascara wearing prima dona. Hunter Pence’s first was tonight. Barely, but it counts.
Let’s discuss the pitching for a little bit. Brandon Backe did a pretty good job through the seventh. Giving up three runs probably doesn’t make any pitcher happy, but with the line-up the Astros have it shouldn’t be too hard to get a win. At lest until Jose Valverde enters the game. He did good tonight. I have faith the Valverde Ed Wade traded to get will show up soon. I do not expect this imposter to get away with this fraud for much longer.
Bench tidbits
I was given a report that Brad Ausmus thinks the Jared dude from Subway sucks. He eats sandwiches from Pot Belly.
Throwing back homerun balls. It needs to stop. Now. I have decided I think the players need to say something. Maybe the fans who throw them back should get escorted out of the park for throwing things on the field. I hate it. Absolutely hate it. It is a stupid Cub tradition. We are Houston Astros fans, not Cub wanna-be fans.
The humidity tonight was mean to my hair.
San Antonio Spurs were victorious against the Phoenix Suns.
Dallas Mavericks lost another. Too bad Mark Cuban, you donkey.
I’ve been trying to break my habit of saying ass/jackass by substituting donkey. I have not had much success of late.
Happy Birthday to my friend Andrea, for some reason she thinks Hunter Pence is cute.
The Bushes were in attendance again.
Marlee Matlyn was the loser tonight on Dancing with the Stars. I said, Marlee Matlyn was the loser tonight on Dancing with the Stars.
