Wandy Rodriguez had been placed on the 15-day disabled list (before the game on Sunday) because of a strained left groin.
Rodriguez, who had a large bruise on the top of his left leg Sunday, said he began to feel pain in his groin during his previous two starts. Link
Wade said. “He’s been pitching great and navigating through whatever mild discomfort he had, so our anticipation is after 15 days he’ll be ready to go.”
“He was all black and blue in there today,” Wade said. “Dave (Labossiere)
said it was absolute that he wouldn’t make this one start and all likelihood would miss a second start, so it didn’t make any sense to prolong this and go short and/or have him decide he wants to go out there and do something heroic and it ends up being six weeks.”
Astros will bring up Byrdak now and Cassel later to take Rodriguez’s starts
Byrdak, who has had a problem with control:
Wade said. “I talked to [Express manager] Dave Clark this morning, and Coop and I and [pitching coach] Dewey [Robinson] just got off the phone with [Clark]. He’s throwing strikes and has been very effective for them.”
Jack Cassel
Wade and the Houston coaching staff also considered Fernando Nieve to make the spot start or two in place of Rodriguez.
“Clark felt that the guy who would best serve the role at this point is Jack,” Wade said. Link

Wigginton out some more
Although he’s eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list (Monday), Wigginton said he will need a few more days …
“All I’ve been doing recently is dry swinging,” he said. “Catching still hurts. It has gotten a lot better. …As soon as I can deal with it or not hurt the team and make the plays I need to make, I’ll get back out there.” Link
Suspension? For what? Telling the truth?
Bob Watson, MLB vice president of on-field operations, said just because Cooper was ejected from the game doesn’t mean he will face an automatic suspension.
“Not necessarily, it all depends on the situation. There are a lot of factors. This was Cooper’s first [ejection] right? I’ll look at everything before I make a decision. …”
…Cooper said. “I’m not concerned about it. I didn’t say anything out of line. I didn’t use any profanity. I’m not that kind of person. I just told them I thought they blew the call, they got it wrong. …I’m just fighting for my team.”

Cooper said he’s never considered getting thrown out as a way to fire up his team.
“If these guys got to get fired up for that, I might be the wrong guy for the job,” he said. “We all have a job to do, and go out and play hard every day. If that’s what it takes to inspire them, then we have to rethink this thing.”
