“Wesley’s got a little finger problem,” Cooper said Saturday before the game. “He’s seeing a doctor later on today.”

“It’s a little strain of my middle finger. … “I started feeling it a little bit Wednesday morning after Tuesday night’s outing,” Wright said.

“I just didn’t say anything about it. First time in the big leagues, you don’t want to say anything about injuries. I probably should have said something about it. “

Announcing his presence with authority
Andrew Miller (22) plans on adding extra pop to his fastball when he faces the Houston Astros on Saturday. …

Miller’s fastball usually clocks in the mid-90s. But the readings dipped to the upper 80s in his previous start … Afterward, manager Fredi Gonzalez told Miller to turn up the heat.

Berkman thinks he needs a curveball,

“I don’t think Randy Johnson was great at first with Seattle. …. I faced both of them and I think this guy has similar stuff … but he just needs to get a feel for pitching. When he gets a good feel for his offspeed stuff, I don’t want to have to face him.” …

“It didn’t really look like he had a good feel for his breaking pitch or his offspeed stuff,” Berkman said. “You know he throws 95 miles an hour, so I thought there was a pretty good chance [with a] 2-1 [count] right there that I was going to see a fastball. I just told myself [to] try to be as quick to it as I could. Fortunately, he threw it to a spot where I could handle it.”Link
