Wigginton has a non-displaced fracture on the upper tip of his left thumb. The Astros will give Wigginton three more days before re-evaluating if he can avoid going on the 15-day disabled list.
“Dr. Mehlhoff thinks that it’s going to probably take four weeks for him to heal, but it’s not going to take him four weeks to be able to play with it,” Astros general manager Ed Wade said. “The way Dr. Mehlhoff described it to me, (is) if this was the World Series he’d be playing tonight.
Cooper says Blum will likely take the majority of the starts at third.
