Bennett – “Einertson put best foot foward this year”

Posted on October 3, 2007 by Duman in Bus Ride Archive

Mitch Einertson’s MVP season in the carolina league is highlighted by his local paper in California. Here are some quotes on & by Mitch:

“Mitch is the one guy in our organization who has put his best foot forward this season,” said Ricky Bennett, Houston’s assistant general manager and director of player personnel.

“He had an unbelievable offensive year.

“What didn’t help him were those 24 homers as a rookie. It took him two years to realize that wasn’t going to happen. That’s not his game.

“Mitch isn’t a big guy (5-foot-10, 180 pounds). This year he didn’t put pressure on himself to hit home runs, and he had a good year.

“Plus, he made tremendous strides defensively in the outfield.

“He’ll be 22 next year, and he has earned the right to play in Double-A.”

Einertson said a big factor in his success was that he finally adjusted to the South’s strength-sapping humidity.

“Every day it’s 90-degrees and 90 percent humidity,” Einertson said. “We get $20 a day meal money, so we eat at Burger King and Hardees a lot. A healthy meal is Subway.

“So I had a hard time keeping weight on and my strength up.

“This season, my parents visited two or three times. My grandparents came out. And my girl friend was around most of the season.

“So I got some good, healthy home-cooked meals. I had a more-stable home life.
