Salem all even in Playoffs, Tri Cities loses

Posted on September 7, 2007 by Duman in Bus Ride Archive

Salem lost game two of their playoff with Kinston 1-0 on a walk off home run in the bottom of the 9th. Josh Rodriguez hit a 0-1 change up out of the park of Raymar Diaz to force a game three tonight.

Polin Trinadad was outstanding. He allowed 3 hits and no walks through seven innings sending 7 Kinston batters back to the bench after strikeouts.

“He had us off-balance all game,” Rodriguez said. “Our offense couldn’t get going.”

“Trinidad was unbelievable,” Avalanche manager Jim Pankovits said. “To throw against them twice, and have even better success against them the second time. And they’re a pretty right-handed dominant team. He threw great.”
Tri Cities fell 4-3 in their next to last game of the season. They couldn’t hold a 3-0 lead they took into the bottom of the 6th. Thomas Vassella had gone 5 innings allowing just 4 hits and only leaving two runners on base thanks to a double play and a pick off. In the 6th, the wheels came off as he allowed a triple, a single and a home to give the Staten Island Yankees a tie. Jordan Powell walked the first batter he faced in the 8th who was then bunted to second and scored on a single for the game winner.

Brandon Barnes was 1-5 with a double, his second hit and first extra base hit in 7 games. Coline Delome was 2 for 5 with a double and a triple appearing to snap out of his mini slump.
