Tri Cites gets one hit, Salem starts playoffs on Wednesday

Posted on September 5, 2007 by Duman in Bus Ride Archive

Tri Cites was the lone affiliate playing tonight. They got shut out 4-0. They had 3 runners reach 1st via one hit, one walk and one error. None of those runners reached second base.

Pete Rancont had this to say:

Quote

“I would like to manage here again,” said Rancont, whose combination of experience, wisdom and patience made him the kind of manager anyone would enjoy playing for. “We didn’t win as many games as we would have liked, but the guys played hard and improved.”

Salem is preparing to face the the team with the best record in the Carolina League in Kinston in the first round of the playoffs:

Quote

“We’ve got to be optimistic going in,” said Salem’s Billy Hart. “We’re playing well right now. We have to win two games.”

“They’re a solid ballclub all the way around. They really don’t have any weaknesses,” Salem manager Jim Pankovits. “Their offense is a nice blend of speed and power. They put the ball in play.

“Their defense is pretty solid, especially up the middle.

“Their pitching, to me, is what really sets them apart. They’ve got a lot of depth, a lot of quality arms. And they know how to pitch; they don’t throw. They keep the ball down and they don’t make mistakes.”
