Round Rock:
Chad Reineke went 8 shut out innings giving up 4 hits and striking out 5. His offense didn’t produce for him until the 10th when Tim Raines Jr. hit a walk off home run for the 1-0 victory.
Quote
“It was a fastball that just ran into my bat.”
Raines Jr. has hit in 7 of his last 8 and has 4 homers during that span. He has hit .335 since his call up from CC in May. Does he deserve a call up when rosters expand?
Corpus Christi:
No pitcher was effective and no batter was effective in an 8-1 loss that just about cuts the line on the Hooks playoff hopes.
Quote
“I think something happened on our way to San Antonio, and I don’t know what it is,” Clark said. “I don’t know if the bus took a detour or we left our bats behind. Maybe that’s what happened — somewhere someone switched our bats out, and we’re swinging someone else’s bats right now….”We were trying to hit five-run home runs with nobody on base,” Clark said. “This was one of those nights where we didn’t have much.”
Salem:
Jeff Wigdahl ended his streak of scoreless outings by giving up 4 runs in the 9th in a 9-4 loss. Mark Ori went 2 for 3 with a solo homer. Chris Salamida took the loss. After going 5-0 in May & June, Salamida is 2-5 in July & August. It was his 4 outing out of the last 6 that he has giving up 4 or more runs.
Salem did gain a game on the wild card playoff spot
Lexington:
Bud Norris was strong through 5 innings and then blew up in the 6th allowing 4 runs. Recent call up from Greeneville, Andrew Darnell was one of 4 Legends with 2 hits. Clemens homered for the second straight night. He has hit in 7 of his last 8, with 4 HR and 12 RBI.
The Lex paper outlines the struggles of this years Legends while reporting the details of the 6-3 loss:
Quote
The Legends, 26-38 in the second half with six games to play, are 57-77 overall. That’s five more losses than the old franchise record, set in 2004.
The Legends have given up a league-high 139 homers, well over the 2004 club record of 123. The club mark of 84 wild pitches, set in 2001, has been pushed to 91 this season.
Langbehn on Norris’ outing:
Quote
“Overall, he threw well once again,” Manager Gregg Langbehn said of Norris. “I’m pleased with his progress. He’s been a lot more aggressive with his fastball. His changeup and breaking pitch (are effective). He’s headed in the right direction.”
Tri Cities:
Tom Vessella earned his 2nd win of the season in a big way by pitching 6 2/3 innings of no hit ball. Delome homered and Barnes earned the game winning RBI in the 2-1 victory.
Vessella on the hit that broke up his no hit bid:
Quote
“It was probably my best pitch of the night,” Vessella said. “It was a fastball up and in but he (Crancer) managed to get a piece of it.”
Quote
“He’s had great stuff all year,” said second baseman Matt Cusick, who went 4-for-4 at the plate. “We all knew he was due for an outing like tonight.”
Greeneville:
The Little Astros couldn’t hold a 5-0 lead and ended up losing 6-5 in 11. The Astros had 12 strike outs in the loss. They have two games left at home if they win both, they can avoid 50 loses for the year.
