Wandy pitched well, well enough to swing his road fortunes towards the positive but errors – and Derek Lowe – combined to send Wandy and the Good Guys to the loss column again. The Dojers whacked the Astros 6-2 in the finale at the Ravine.

2 Clank! errors at first base led directly to runs. One in the 4th that should have been the 3rd out and one in the 5th that skipped under his glove as he set to start a DP. Scully remarked Lamb came up with “a glove full of empty.” Those were the 3rd and 4th runs, though. Jeff Kent laced a 2 RBI double in the 1st.

Derek Lowe went seven scoreless, bolstered by 4 DPs. The Astros didn’t get on the board until with 1 out in the 9th, Carlos Lee doubled home Loretta. Lance then scored on an error but that was all. The Astros leave with a split in a road series that started out with alot of promise.

On to the House of Ensberg for three against the 2nd place Padres.

One more thing.
Vin Scully is a national treasure. He’s as good as they get, even as he approaches 80. I think I learned more from him about Craig Biggio over 4 innings than I’ve gathered over 20 years, all the while describing the game with elegant narrative and sly wit. The most amazing part is he prefers to work alone. Even his clichés (“What’s interesting to note here…”) are delivered with a style that is natural and graceful. I admit I was happy when I realized I would be getting the Dodgers feed from MLB.TV tonight.
