In Greeneville change is the key word. Devon Torrence is now at OSU, saying he will be back next year. Three players each were exchanged between Greeneville & Tri Cites. The result of this change? A three game win streak for the G-stros. The longest streak of the year, the previous long streak was 1.
Friday, Greeneville bested Kingsport 5-2 behind Andy Launier’s first homer and Kyle Greenwalt’s solid 4 innings of pitching. Saturday, the swept the two game series from Kingsport 5-3. Rosario went 3 for 4 with a HR, Kyle Miller had 3 hits and Brett Robinson got his second win of the weekend in relief. Sunday, Leandro Cespedes K’d 11 E-Twins in 7 innings. He allowed only 2 hits in approximately 85 pitches. My first hand account is in the Greeneville thread.
Tri Cities went 1-2 on the weekend including an ugly 16-0 loss on Sunday. Brandon Barnes went 6-13 over the weekend after getting snubbed for a NYPL All Star nod. Granted he was hitting .130 for the month of August coming into the weekend but was leading the team in RBI and tied for team lead in HR & Doubles.

“It’s one of those things,” Barnes said. “I felt I should have been picked. I did all I could do.”….”When you come right down to it, it’s more about helping the team (than being an All-Star),” Barnes said.
Rancot’s take:
Quote
“He goes out and plays hard every day,” Tri-City manager Pete Rancont said of Barnes. “I’m sure he’s disappointed (about not being an All-Star). But he’s comfortable with what he’s doing.”
Lexington had “Bring your dad to the ball park weekend” Roger C was visiting Koby & Ralphie H’s dad was coaching first for the visitors.

Friday night
Polin Trinidad & Kyle Deyoung combined for a 3 hit shut out. Trinidad went 7 giving up the 3 hits, while striking out 6. Deyoung struck out 2 over two innings of hitless relief. Each walked one batter. Saturday, DeYoung got the save again holding on to a 5-4 victory. Norris had a strong outing striking out 8 in 6 innings. Nick Moresi had a 3 run blast to provide most of the offense. Trinidad was called up to Salem after Saturday’s game.
Langbehn on DeYoung’s save:
Quote
“That’s not an easy situation to come into,” Langbehn said of DeYoung’s save. “But he’s been our guy in tight situations; he’s the guy we feel most comfortable with. He threw great pitches. He gave up a walk, but he came right back, got the next guy to fly out, and that’s what we’re looking for.”
Sunday, Langbehn was disappointed following the 4-2 loss.
Quote
“I thought it was embarrassing, to be honest,” Legends Manager Gregg Langbehn said. “I thought it was a very poor effort by everyone. And the hitters — just a complete lack of discipline. Very disappointed.”
Salem swept their weekend games. Cesar Quintero boldly predicted his 9th inning walk off hit Friday night:
Quote
Quintero said that in the bottom of the ninth, with the score tied, one out and runners at the corners, Myrtle Beach catcher Jose Camarena told him the Pelicans were going to walk him to get to the next batter, Jose Lopez.
“I said, ‘Do it, or I’m going to hit a walk-off hit,’ ” Quintero said, as translated by Lopez.
The Pelicans didn’t do it; Quintero did.
After two straight pitchouts, Quintero drove a single to deep center field to bring Orlando Rosales home for a 3-2 Carolina League victory over Myrtle Beach at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium on Friday night.
Sunday morning’s paper had an article about the highs and lows players have to deal with playing pro ball. One player who was talked about was Vladimer Sutil who is described as
Quote
Anchored by a horrendous slump, yanked out of a tight game in a clutch moment for a pinch hitter, Sutil found a private spot in the clubhouse and wept.
There was no need to yank him on Saturday night. He went 3 for 4 in a 7-2 win. Two of his 3 hits came as a part of a 7 run 6th inning. Chris Salamida went 5 2/3 innings striking out 8.
Sunday night, the Avs won their 6th straight game 4-2. Jeff Wigdahl got the save. He has only allowed 1 earned run in the 11 appearances since his demotion from CC.
Corpus Christi went 1-2 on the weekend as the bullpen blew 2 games. Friday, Brian Bogusevic had a good outing giving up only 1 earned run in 5 2/3 innings. The Hooks took a 3-2 lead into the 8th but Gervacio & Middleton couldn’t close it out resulting in a 5-3 loss. Saturday, Brad James left the game with a arm injury after taking a line drive off his pitching hand. It is reported that he won’t miss a start due to the bruise on the inside of his pitching hand. Josh Miller came in and pitched 5 1/3 innings of solid relief for the win.. Sadler, Caraballo, Santangelo, & Flores all had 3 hits. Caraballo & Maysonet had 3 RBI in the 13 to 5 drumming. Sunday, the bullpen blew it again. Melendez gave up 5 runs in 1 1/3 innings as the a 6-2 lead became a 7-6 loss. Josh Flores appears to be catching up to AA pitching, he went 6 for 13 for the weekend. Lou Santangelo is hot right now. He is hitting .458 for the month of August with 2 home runs, 4 RBI and 7 runs scored. He is riding a 6 game hitting streak.
