ESPN recap: Here.
Nice series against the Pirates, guys. But this is what happens when you face a real major-league team. Mr. DuBose got it right:
Astros owner Drayton McLane said last week that the next few games would play a huge role in determining what approach the club takes into next week’s trade deadline.
On Monday, the Astros made quite a strong case to be sellers.
As has been pointed out in the TZ, Sampson has to be nearly perfect to be effective. He was no such thing, although Eric Munson’s lack of catching fundamentals didn’t help while giving up a run in the 2nd. It was ruled a wild pitch to score Kent from third, but Munson’s stab at the pitch, rather than moving his body, did nothing to help.
Bork and Moehler did nothing to stop the bleeding, allowing three runs each.
The Ninja’s home run with two out in the ninth robbed the youngster Billingsley of his first career shutout and moved the final score from “Rays-esque” to “embarrassing”.
Tomorrow – Jennings gets one of two remaining chances to increase his trade value.
