Whoever invented work hated baseball

I’ll admit, I barely got to watch this one but from a quick check of the 1st inning score, I could tell the good feeling from the past 5 meetings with the Reds may be evaporating. The Astros couldn’t overcome the Dickities’ 4-run 1st, 2-run 2nd and 1-run 3rd that made up all of Matt Albers’ time on the bump today and went on to drop this turd, 9-5.

Albers rocked

Not much of note in this one, unless it concerns you that Albers threw 68 pitches and faced 18 batters in just 3 innings, giving up nine hits, including a shot to Junyah and a dong and a triple to Adam Dunn who had a moster day at the plate. Peepers got the start at 2nd for the Astros and hit a 3-run blast in the 5th to get the boys within 2. Berkman continued his torrid violation of Tammy Faye Bakker park and Reds pitching in general, boosting his average to near .300 and looking much more comfortable at the plate.

Those who wonder why Brian Moehler remains on the roster got a glimpse of the reason today, he went 4 mop-up innings that kept the Astros in it but he gave up a crushing 2-run bomb in the 5th just when the Astros had climbed back in the game.

Iceberg strikes again

In the top of the 8th with the Astros down 9-5 came their best chance of exploiting the shuddering bullpen of the Reds. After Lee and Lamb singles and a plunk of Burke, the bases were juiced with one out and the 8th and 9th spot in the order up. The GZ was riddled with speculation as to what moves Gar might make. He chose not to PH for Ausmus who popped out on the infield and then he PH Iceburg who, after working the count well and doing a not-so-successful Fisk imitation, decided to do what he do best and he watched strike three slap into the catcher’s mitt.

My indignation can’t hold a candle to this.

The Good Guys take the series though and have beaten the Reds 7 out of 9 so far this season. Back home tomorrow for 3 with the D’Backs.
