The man with perhaps my favorite baseball name of all-time, Stubby Clapp, has been named by the Astros as the new hitting coach at Greeneville. The 33 year-old played in the minors for eleven seasons, the first nine of which were in affiliated ball (he did manage to make it to the bigs for 23 games with the Cardinals in 2001). The career .275 minor league hitter played the last two years with Edmonton in the indy Northern League. Clapp played his college ball at Texas Tech although he is a native of Canada and played for that country in the 2004 Olympics and 2006 World Baseball Classic.
This completes the hiring for all coaching positions throughout the Astros minor league system.
