Players and leagues today’s Astros.com article failed to pick up on plus corrections and supplemental info on some of the players who were mentioned:
Puerto Rican Winter League
1B Cirilo Cruz. Cheo’s nephew had a hit in his last three visits to the plate and is batting .333 in sparse playing time (just 6 ABs).
RHP Raymar Diaz. No appearances since the last update (4.15 ERA through 4.1 IP).
SS Edwin Maysonet. Demonstrating the kind of bat that’s held him back his entire career, going hitless since the last update and now batting just .171 (7-41) through 14 games.
Venezuelan Winter League
OF Jorge Cortes. The 26-year old veteran minor leaguer is hitting .203 (13-64) through 23 games.
LHP Carlos Hernandez: those two most recent excellent outings have further lowered his ERA to 3.40 on the season with 15 ERs allowed in 39.2 IP on 42 hits and 14 walks.
RHP Felipe Paulino: no appearances during the week, thus keeping intact the elevated 6.10 ERA (14 ERs in 20.2 IP with 28 hits and 7 walks surrendered).
UTIL Cesar Quintero: 0-2 during the week and is now hitless in his last 12 ABs to drop his BA to .313 (15-48) after 23 games.
C Humberto Quintero: batting .358/.369/.605 through 21 games (29 hits in 81 ABs). His twelve extra-base hits include 8 doubles.
LHP Enyelbert Soto: that recent scoreless appearance reduced his ERA on the year to 5.23 (6 ERs in 10.1 IP).
Dominican Winter League
RHP Zeke Astacio: no appearances for the second straight week.
RHP Sammy Gervacio: like Astacio, he hasn’t seen the mound for a couple of weeks now.
RHP Roberto Giron: with a run allowed in 2.2 innings of work during the week, his ERA for the year rose slightly to 3.05 (7 ERs in 20.2 IP).
RHP Ronnie Martinez: more recent inactivity for the 23-year old who pitched at both CC and Salem this past season. Stuck on that 2.89 ERA (3 earned runs in 9.1 IP).
Caveats, notes and assorted other items of interest:
- According to Tim Purpura a couple of days ago, Jason Lane is scheduled to head down to Venezuela next week where he will be playing for either Caracas or Magallanes.
- Not included in the above lists are younger guys (e.g., LHP Victor Garate) who evidently have concluded their season.
- Some of the players mentioned above are minor league free agents who might not be with the organization next season.
- All stats are as of Nov. 30.
