No Astros.com article to pick apart this week, so we’ll go it alone:
Puerto Rican Winter League
RHP Raymar Diaz. The 6’7″ former outfielder has a 4.15 ERA after two appearances (4.1 IP) with Arecibo.
SS Edwin Maysonet. The slick-fielding 25-year old infielder is batting just .189 (7-37) through 12 games. He’s a teammate of Diaz on the Lobos.
1B Cirilo Cruz. Has a single and 2 RBIs in three ABs playing for his tio Jose, who manages the Ponce club.
Venezuelan Winter League
OF Jorge Cortes. Did not play. Bumping along with a .200 BA (11-55) after 19 games.
LHP Carlos Hernandez: picked up a win during the week with a 6-inning/1-run performance, lowering his ERA to 3.97 on the season in the process. He’s allowed 15 ERs in 34 IP on 37 hits and 14 walks.
RHP German Melendez: didn’t pitch in the last seven days. Still stuck with an 8.44 ERA (5 ERs in 5.1 IP).
RHP Felipe Paulino: three runs allowed in a pair of appearances during the week (totalling 7 IP), reducing his ERA on the season to 6.10 (14 ERs in 20.2 IP).
UTIL Cesar Quintero: hitless in 10 ABs during the week to drop his BA to .326 (15-46) after 21 games.
C Humberto Quintero: hit .321 in five games during the week (9-28) and is currently batting .375/.394/.625 through 17 games (24 hits in 64 ABs). Ten of his hits have gone for extra-bases (3 homers, 7 doubles).
LHP Enyelbert Soto: no activity. Still sports the 8.10 ERA (6 ERs in 6.2 IP).
Dominican Winter League
RHP Zeke Astacio: no appearances as he’s still saddled with the 6.97 ERA (8 ERs allowed on 16 hits in 10.1 IP).
RHP Sammy Gervacio: no appearances.
RHP Roberto Giron: 2.1 scoreless frames during the week as his ERA for the year drops to 3.00 (6 ERs in 18 IP).
RHP Ronnie Martinez: no activity during the week to maintain his 2.89 ERA (3 earned runs in 9.1 IP).
Hawaiian Winter League
3B Koby Clemens: Manager Dave Clark’s North Shore club made it to the HWL championship game on Wednesday where they claimed the title with a 5-1 win over Waikiki. Clemens the Younger didn’t play in the game and was absolutely horrible for most of the season, batting just .163 (15-92) with only three RBIs and three extra-base hits over the last 26 games.
The usual caveats, notes and assorted other items of interest:
- Not included in the above lists are younger guys (e.g., LHP Victor Garate) who evidently have concluded their season.
- Some of the players mentioned above are minor league free agents who might not be with the organization next season (which of course is why we’re no longer following Jailen Peguero).
- Richard Hidalgo (who the Red Sox might be sniffing around, according to one of the Boston newspapers earlier in the week) is hitting .248/.317/.440 playing for Al Pedrique’s Magallanes club in the VWL.
- Admit it. You just had to know how Jose Lima is doing in the DWL. The well-traveled one has a 2.43 ERA for Aguilas (9 ERs in 33.1 IP).
- All stats are as of Nov. 23, with the exception of the Puerto Rican Winter League which are as of Nov. 26.
