You don’t see too many soon-to-be 27 year olds in the Arizona Fall League, but Conrad is making the most of his stint there. After being added to the Mesa Solar Sox roster when Hunter Pence got the boot, the slugging second-sacker has hits in all seven games he’s played in and is batting .478 (11-23). Six of his hits have gone for extra bases (4 doubles, 1 triple, 1 longball). The Arizona State-ex is also showing a heckuva lot more plate discipline with 9 walks and 5 strikeouts. He whiffed 135 times and drew 54 walks this past season at RR when he batted .267/.334/.534 and led all of minor league baseball in extra-base hits.
Any chances he has left of a major league career (whether it be with the Astros or someone else) are gonna hinge on him being able to show some versatility on the defensive side and he’s certainly getting a workout there for the Solar Sox. In addition to two games at second base, he’s played two games in LF and even saw action in today’s game in CF (his other two games were at DH).
