Astros lose in the 11th, Cards takes series

Posted on May 31, 2006 by mihoba in Game Recaps

The Astros lost the final game of a miserable road trip   Wednesday afternoon as the Co-ards scored in the bottom of the 11th inning to earn a 4-3 victory and take the three game series at New Jake City two games to one.

Taylor Buchholz started and went 5 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 5 hits and 3 walks. The bullpen took over and held the Jakes hitless for  the next 5 innings.     Trever Miller pitched the 6th,  Dave Borowski the 7th and 8th,  Dan Wheeler the 9th, and  Russ Springer the 10th. Enter  Mike Gallo for the 11th, and trouble started once again after a  double, an infield hit, and a HBP loaded the bases before Gallo gave up the winning single up the middle to the light hitting So Taguchi.

Orlando Palmeiro , in a rare start, opened the 10- hit parade for the good guys with a one out double and scored on a single by  Lance Berkman . The Astros went up 2-0 in the third inning on a single by Palmeiro, a double from Berkman, and a run-scoring ground out by  Chris Burke . The Jakes scratched out a run in the bottom of the third, and went ahead in the fifth by scoring two. Brad Ausmus and Eric Bruntlett tied the game in the sixth with back-to-back doubles.

The Astros limp home and will have a day off tomorrow before hosting the Reds for the weekend. Friday night is scheduled for 7:05,  Wandy Rodriguez vs. Aaron Harang.
