The Giants scored double figures in runs again Wednesday night to defeat the Astros 10-1 and complete the three game sweep. The Astros were outscored 34-5 in the series at Minute Maid park. The good news, this is the final meeting with the Giants and Barry Bonds for 2006, as the Astros held him homerless in his quest to tie Babe Ruth in career home runs. The Giants take the season series 5-1.
This game started ugly, not unlike the other two. Rookie starter Fernando Nieve allowed 7 runs-6 earned-in his 3 2/3 innings with 7 hits and 6 free passes as the Astros trailed early and couldn’t mount a rally against the Giants and old foe Matt Morris.
The Astros had three hits and 5 walks in the game and never mounted a serious threat. This was one ugly series.
The Astros will enjoy a rare home day off Thursday before starting a weekend series with the Rangers. This weekend is the reunion of the ’86 division winning squad. Friday night is Roy Oswalt vs. Robinson Tejeda @ 7:05 CST.
