(9-9, 3rd–PCL American South)
Game Notes:
A 3-spot in the 1st inning proved to be the winning margin as RR takes its 3rd straight game from the Iowa Cubs, this time by a 4-1 score.
For the 3rd time this season, CF Charlton Jimerson led off a game with a home run. After LF Luke Scott reached on a single, 2B Brooks Conrad completed the scoring in that inning by going yard (#3).
In addition to hitting his 5th longball of the year, Jimerson had a 2-out RBI double in the 7th inning. He also swiped 3B for his 5th SB of the year.
C Humberto Quintero had a pair of singles.
Bob Giron picked up the win with 5.2 innings of 1-run ball, Travis Driskill the save (#1) with 3 scoreless frames.
Other News and Notes:
(1) OF Brian Gordon was back in the lineup after being hit by a pitch in yesterday’s game. (2) Hitting streaks: Chewy has a 6-gamer.
(11-7, T1st–Texas League South)
Game Notes:
Some timely hits and some even more timely RoughRider errors provided the Hooks with the 8-5 win over Frisco.
Leading the way as usual for the CC offense was 1B J.R. House. The West Virginia native drove in half the Hooks’ runs with a 3-run shot (#3) and an RBI single.
RF Hunter Pence shows he can do it all (at least for one game, anyway). Not only does he score twice and work a walk along with his 2 base hits, he throws out 2 baserunners (one at 3B, one at home plate).
A couple of guys who entered the game with sub-.150 BAs, LF Jorge Cortes and 3B Jared Sandberg, both belted out a pair of doubles.
SS Ben Zobrist walked and reached on an error, scoring twice.
Mitch Talbot had the decent outing (6 IP 8 H 4 R 2 ER 2 W 8 K) to pick up his 1st Texas League win.
Jailen Peguero earned his 4th save with 2 scoreless, whiffing 3 in the process.
4 Frisco miscues led to 3 of the Hooks’ runs being unearned.
Other News and Notes:
(1) Make that a 7-2 record for CC against Frisco this season. (2) And make it 6 wins in their last 7 games for the Hooks. (3) That’s 17 RBIs for House this season, one less than his hitting streak. (4) Brian McTaggart in the Chron reports that Josh Muecke will be out 4 more weeks with a deep bone bruise in his wrist.
(8-9, T3rd-Carolina League Southern)
Game Notes:
A lineup full of slumping hitters can scratch out only 3 hits as the Avalanche fall 2-1 to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. An excellent starting pitching effort gets wasted in the process.
Chad Reineke makes his 3rd excellent start of the year (out of 4), going 6 innings and allowing just 1 run on 5 base hits. He whiffed 6.
Reliever Enyelbert Soto came on in the 8th inning, immediately giving up a walk and a single. After a GB moved the runners up, he was lifted in favor of Anthony Dewitt who gave up the sac fly which scored what would turn out to be the winning run.
C Lou Santangelo had an RBI triple (the 1st 3-bagger by an Avalanche player this season), but also whiffed twice.
CF Ervin Alcantara singled and 1B Scott Robinson doubled to account for the remainder of the Avalanche hits.
Struggling hitters 2B Drew Sutton, LF Beau Torbert, DH Billy Hart, and RF Frankie Caraballo were a collective 0-12 at the plate.
Braves’ 10th-ranked prospect Matt Harrison started and helped keep the Avs’ hitters in check, going 8 innings and allowing just 4 baserunners.
Other News and Notes:
(1) Hitting streaks: Alcantara now has a 7-gamer.
(12-6, 1st–SAL Northern)
Game Notes:
Big comeback win for the Legends as they score 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th and another 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to edge the Power 4-2.
2B Eric King was definitely the hitting hero as he was involved in the scoring in both frames. He led off the 8th with a single and eventually came home. With runners on 1st and 3rd in the 9th with one out, King singled to drive in the tying run (the winning run came across as a result of an error on the play).
CF Mitch Einertson had 3 singles in 4 trips, including a hit in that 8th inning.
LF Ryan Reed and 3B Michael Thompson both had a couple of hits in the game.
RF Eli Iorg was 0-4, though he did pick up an RBI on a groundout in the 8th.
Raymar Diaz got the spot start and did well, with the only run scoring off him over 5 frames coming on a solo shot.
The Legends had one runner thrown out at home plate and another picked off 3B. A third was erased on a CS.
Other News and Notes:
(1) Slumping CF Josh Flores sat out the game. (2) RHP Doug Arguello has some elbow tenderness and did not make his scheduled start.

Further on Koby:
“He’s going to be out four to six weeks,” Manager Jack Lind said. “They think the tendons are going to heal on their own, so I don’t think they’re going to do surgery. They’ll take the stitches out in the next week or so. He’s going to stay in Houston for a while.”
